Chassis Classifications

A cab-and-chassis truck’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) determines how much weight the vehicle can transport once equipped with a body to match its primary application. Often, manufacturers will categorize the cab-and-chassis truck by a class that represents a GVWR range.

For example, light-duty Class 3 vehicles are often assigned a weight rating around 14,000 pounds (6,350 kilograms), while medium-duty trucks typically include Class 4, 5, and 6 vehicles with GVWRs ranging from 14,001 lbs to 26,000 lbs (11,793 kg).
