This is because the driver can drop off a container and then pick it up when it’s full or the job is completed. The operator can then haul the container to a waste or recycling center, unload it, and then return it or take it to a different site.
Packer garbage trucks are available in front loader, rear loader, and side loader configurations. They’re ideal for weekly residential or light commercial trash collection. A few details about these loader types include:
- Front loaders. This type uses arms in the front to pick up smaller commercial dumpsters and unload them into an open top in the truck body, which periodically compacts its trash load to make room for more.
- Rear loaders. These loaders typically require a worker to unload trash cans into the rear compartment, where they can then be compacted using controls in the cab or at the rear of the truck.
- Side loaders. This loader type supports one-man operation thanks to automated hydraulic arms that reach out to grab containers, unload them, and then put them back into place.
