Overview This new 2027 Peterbilt 589 day cab is set up as a construction dump truck for hauling construction materials. It has a 17' Heritage Steel Smooth Side dump body, a trunnion-mounted telescopic hoist and an Aero electric tarp system. The truck has a 245" wheelbase, a 145.1" cab-to-axle measurement and an 80,000 lb GVWR, and it's rated for a 6% maximum grade. Engine & Drivetrain This 589 is powered by a Cummins X15 Prod Series engine rated at 605 HP at 1,950 RPM. It makes 2,050 lb-ft of torque at 1,000 RPM, is governed at 2,000 RPM and meets 2024 emissions standards. The powertrain is optimized for performance vocational applications and heavy GCWR, with a typical operating speed of 70 MPH and a 3.91 rear axle ratio. An Eaton RTLO22918B 18-speed manual transmission with an oil-to-water cooler is paired with a black manual shifter, a self-adjusting clutch and a pre-damped clutch. The driveline is an 1810 heavy-duty unit with one midship bearing and 4.5" x .180 wall tubing, plus a 1710 interaxle driveline for the tandem rear axles. Engine equipment includes a Jacobs compression brake with controls on the right-hand column, a 12-pin remote PTO/throttle provision in the engine bay, and a dash-mounted single-acting electric-over-air PTO control. It also has a PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator, a PACCAR premium starter, and four Interstate 31ECL 12V batteries rated at 2,800 CCA. Electrical features include a battery jumper terminal, a cab power disconnect switch and a low voltage disconnect system. Other engine features include a 110–120V immersion block heater, a 2-speed fan clutch for frequent start/stops, a 37.4 CFM air compressor and a high-efficiency cooling system. Fuel filtration uses a PACCAR fuel/water separator with an extended service interval and 12V fuel filter heat. Air is drawn through dual 15" premium stainless steel cowl-mounted air cleaners with slotted caps and an increased air filter full indication. Engine protection shutdown, EMUX electronics architecture and an enabled engine idle shutdown timer round out the engine package. Exhaust runs through a dual SOC DPF/SCR single module under the right side of the cab, with a DPF regeneration switch. It exits through dual 36" chrome-plated steel standpipes with clear coat and 45-degree-cut curved tips. Chassis & Axles The frame uses 10-3/4" steel rails to 354" with 3/8" rail thickness, a full steel inner liner and zinc-coated anti-corrosion treated rails. It also has aluminum frame rail crossmembers, heavy-duty iron front spring brackets and a square end of frame with a steel crossmember. Up front, a PACCAR FX-20 wide-track steer axle is rated at 20,000 lbs with a 4" drop. It has TRW TAS85 dual-gear power steering with a frame-mounted reservoir and cooler, Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes, PHP10 iron Preset Plus hubs, greasable spring pins and pad dust shields. The Dana Spicer D46-172 rear axle is rated at 46,000 lbs and has heavy-wall housings, a lube pump, synthetic lubricant and Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes. It also has PHP10 aluminum Preset Plus hubs and pad and rotor dust shields. Traction is handled by a tandem differential lock with speed interlock and separate dash control, plus Bendix Smart ATC traction control. A Hendrickson EXS20 self-steering pusher axle rated at 20,000 lbs sits 50" ahead of the forward drive axle. It has its own air tank, air disc brakes and PHP10 iron Preset Plus hubs and rotors. The lift axle regulator and switch are tied to the rail with gauges in the dash, and the lifted axle stows lower to maximize body clearance. Lift axle controls are set up with a gauge, regulator and Schrader valve on the outside of the passenger side. Additional chassis systems include a 6S6M ABS, a tire pressure monitoring system and an SBM valve. Engineering ratings are a 20,000 lb front GAWR and a 20,000 lb first intermediate GAWR. The second intermediate and rear GAWRs are 23,000 lbs each, for an 80,000 lb GVWR and an 80,000 lb GCW. Fuel is carried in a 26" polished aluminum 80-gallon tank on the right side behind the cab and a 26" polished aluminum 50-gallon tank on the left side, both with polished straps. A 14-gallon heavy-duty DEF tank sits on the left side behind the cab with a polished stainless steel cover. The air system has a Bendix AD-HF EP air dryer with a heater, coalescing filter and extended purge. It also has polished aluminum air tanks outside the frame rails, pull cords on all air tanks and nylon chassis hose. A dash-mounted self-returning brake hand valve is plumbed to all service brakes. Seating includes Peterbilt LX premium-level high-back leather seats in black for both driver and passenger, both with air ride, plus a heated driver seat and armrests on each seat. The leather-wrapped premium multi-function steering wheel has audio and cruise controls and sits on a tilt/telescoping column. The 15" digital cluster displays air filter restriction, tractor and trailer brake application pressure, two suspension load air pressures, trailer reservoir pressure, engine and PTO hourmeters and engine percent torque. Separate 52 mm backlit gauges show front and rear drive axle oil temperature, engine oil temperature, fuel filter restriction, manifold pressure and pusher axle pressure, all with bright bezels and rear axle heat gauge guards. The dash has three additional switches with wiring behind the dash. Audio and communication include a ConcertClass AM/FM/WB radio with a 3.5 mm aux input, satellite radio, Bluetooth phone and audio, a USB port and a mid-level four-speaker package.
