Overview
This Peterbilt 520 LCF is configured as a residential front-loading refuse truck for on-highway service, hauling refuse, scrap, and recycling. It's fitted with a 28 cubic yard Heil HalfPack front loader body.
Engine & Drivetrain
Powered by a PACCAR MX-11 engine rated 400 HP @ 1,600 RPM (2,200 RPM governed), producing 1,450 lb-ft of torque @ 900 RPM, built to 2024 refuse emissions standards with VMUX electronics architecture. Typical operating speed is set at 68 MPH. Backed by an Allison 4500 RDS-P automatic transmission, Gen 6 Rugged Duty Series, configured as a 6-speed with a console-mounted push-button shifter, transmission fluid test port with remote coupler, and a neutral output indicator for PTO. Driveline consists of a 1810 HD driveline with midship bearing (4.5" x .180" wall tubing) and a 1710 interaxle driveline for the tandem rear axles, with a 5.38 rear axle ratio. Equipped with a PACCAR engine compression brake, 160-amp 36 SI brushless alternator, immersion-type block heater (110–120V), PACCAR premium starter, and three PACCAR premium 12V dual-purpose batteries (2,190 CCA) with a Kissling 300-amp disconnect switch. Cooling and intake features include a high-efficiency cooling system, 2-speed fan clutch, bugscreen, stainless steel grille, heavy-duty air cleaner with pre-cleaner, and a vertical LH-mounted DPF/SCR exhaust with 90-degree diffuser. Chassis & Axles
Front axle is a PACCAR FX-20 steer axle rated 20,000 lbs with a 4" drop and wide-track configuration; rear axle is a Meritor RT46-160 rated 46,000 lbs. GAWR is 20,000 lbs front and 23,000 lbs at each intermediate rating, for a 66,000 lb GVWR and 66,000 lb GCW. Wheelbase measures 210". Frame consists of 10-3/4" steel rails (343"–450" range) at 3/8" thickness with a full steel inner liner and zinc-coated anti-corrosion treatment, plus a FEPTO provision with 4-7/8" bumper extension and (2) Holland TH-10050 tow hooks at the end of frame. Braking includes Bendix air cam drum brakes (16.5x7 front, 16.5x8.6 rear), refuse service brakes on steer and drive axles, reinforced rear brake camshaft, heavy-wall drive axles, gusseted cam brackets front and rear, upsized parking brakes, and a 6S6M anti-lock braking system, with synthetic axle lubricant throughout. Steering is a Sheppard M100 dual-gear power steering unit. Fuel and DEF systems include a 26" aluminum 80-gallon fuel tank (RH behind cab) with a perforated anti-siphon device and PACCAR MX engine fuel cooler, plus a 7.3-gallon DEF tank (LH BOC) at a 2:1 DEF-to-fuel ratio. The aluminum battery box is frame-mounted on the LH side, back of fender. Maximum grade rating is 6%, with operating area restrictions of 40 ft length, 102" width, and 13.5 ft height.
Suspension
Rear suspension is a Hendrickson HMX EX 460, rated 46,000 lbs with a 54" spread, HAULMAAX rubber springs rated for 70K creep, and matched shock absorbers. Front suspension uses taper leaf springs rated 23,000 lbs with shocks.
Cab & Interior
A 53" LCF ProBilt cab (LH drive) with gray interior and a thermal insulation package. Seating includes a Peterbilt air-ride, high-back, vinyl driver's seat with RH armrest, and a vinyl, low-back, non-air-ride passenger seat; seat belts are orange. High-visibility yellow-painted grab handles, an adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column with Peterbilt logo wheel, and diamond plate floor covering are included. The digital cluster features a 7" display showing transmission oil temperature, air restriction, brake application air pressure, and PTO status. Visibility features include a two-piece flat windshield, dark-tinted fixed rear window, heated/motorized stainless mirrors on each side, a stainless look-down mirror, and (4) convex 8" stainless mirrors. Climate is handled by a combination fresh-air heater/air conditioner. Audio/tech includes a ConcertClass AM/FM radio with weatherband and 3.5mm aux, a midlevel 4-speaker package, Bluetooth phone/audio, USB port, and SmartLINQ remote diagnostics with a 5-year over-the-air subscription. Body & Equipment
Heil HalfPack front loader body, 28 cubic yard capacity, rated for a max laden weight of 1,000 lbs. Mounted with a full factory mount for service hoist or serviceable eject, including body props and a rear pivot sump to body (curbside only). Hydraulics run off a front-mount vane pump, controlled via a left-hand, dual-axis electric joystick. Lighting includes a single LED windscreen-mounted container light, multi-function lights, LED body-side backing-assist lights, dual oval flat LED strobes mid-tailgate (in-cab switch, pump-on, and reverse activated), dual cab guard-mounted flood lights, and a cab shield-mounted LED light facing rearward toward the hopper opening. Camera coverage includes a base 3rd Eye single-camera system with 7" monitor and tailgate-mounted camera, plus a 3rd Eye hopper camera. Body construction upgrades to a 1/4" AR400 floor (over standard 3/16" AR400), with a steel sliding top door, a universal steel-frame cab protector with steel sheet and manual-jack extension raise, a tailgate-mounted steel roof access ladder, a 3" hopper drain with plug, and rodent-resistant weaved wire loom. Additional equipment includes a second 20 lb fire extinguisher, rear caution decal, bolt-on fender extension kit, and an 18"x18"x24" aluminum bumper-mounted toolbox.
