Overview
This new 2025 Peterbilt 520 LCF is configured as a refuse/recycling collection chassis with a right-hand-drive 53" LCF ProBilt cab, built for on-highway refuse, scrap, and recycling hauling and set up for an automated side loader / push-out body.
Engine & Drivetrain
Powered by a PACCAR MX-11 rated at 400 HP @ 1,600 RPM (governed @ 2,200 RPM) with 1,450 lb-ft of torque @ 900 RPM, in Refuse duty configuration, 2024-emissions compliant (2025 model year engine). Paired with an Allison 4500 RDS-P Rugged Duty Series Gen 6 automatic transmission in a 6-speed configuration with a console-mounted push-button shifter, Allison World Trans primary shift schedule 1, TC-571 torque converter, auto-neutral activation with parking brake, and a transmission fluid test port with remote coupler. Driveline consists of a 1810 HD driveline with one midship bearing (4.5" x .180" wall tubing) and a 1710 interaxle driveline for the tandem rear axles. Rear axle ratio is 5.38. Equipped with an engine compression brake, EMUX electronics architecture, engine idle shutdown timer disabled, and a typical operating speed of 68 MPH. PTO provisions include a dash-mounted PTO mode control switch with cab-station control, a dash-mounted electric-over-hydraulic PTO control, and a 12-pin remote PTO/throttle connection (250K, BOC/BOS, J1939). Electrical system includes a 160-amp 36 SI brushless alternator, three PACCAR premium 12V starting batteries (3,000 CCA), and a 300-amp Kissling battery disconnect switch. Cooling and induction feature a high-efficiency cooling system with 2-speed fan clutch, PACCAR fuel/water separator with extended service interval, heavy-duty air cleaner, bugscreen, and stainless steel grille. Exhaust is a vertical LH-mounted DPF/SCR single-module system with a 90-degree diffuser.
Chassis & Axles
Front axle is a PACCAR FX-20 steer axle rated 20,000 lbs with a 4" drop, Sheppard M100 dual-gear power steering, PHP10 Iron Preset+ hubs, and Bendix air cam front drum brakes (16.5x7, 16,000–23,000 lb rating). Rear axle is a Meritor RT46-164E rated 46,000 lbs (5/8" wall) with PHP10 Iron Preset+ hubs, a forward-rear differential lock, Bendix Smart ATC traction control, and Bendix air cam rear drum brakes (16.5x8.6). Note: per Meritor rear axle approval, the drive axle should not be operated for durations exceeding 45 minutes at highway speed without cooldown, and axle oil temperature must not exceed 250°F (121°C). Braking system includes refuse-duty service brakes on steer and drive axles, rear brake camshaft reinforcement, gusseted cam brackets front and rear, upsized parking brakes, a lube pump for the drive axle(s), an SBM valve, synthetic axle lubricant on all axles, and a 6S6M anti-lock braking system. GAWR is rated 20,000 lbs front (23,000 lbs at both first and second intermediate) with a 66,000 lb GVWR; front/rear axle loads are 20,000 lbs and 46,000 lbs respectively, for a 66,000 lb GCW. Frame consists of 10-3/4" steel rails (306"–342" length range, 3/8" thickness) with a full steel inner liner and zinc-coated anti-corrosion treatment. Wheelbase measures 216" (Cab/Axle 216", Cab/EOF 291"), with a maximum grade rating of 6% and a 100% highway duty-cycle rating. Additional chassis equipment includes a 9" FEPTO bumper extension provision, a square end-of-frame without crossmember, omitted rear mudflaps/hangers, (2) Holland TH-10050 tow hooks, and (2) solid-mount cable hooks. Air system includes a Bendix AD-HF EP air dryer with heater and extended-purge coalescing filter, steel painted air tanks mounted high at BOC/BOS, a central air tank drain valve location, and a cleared frame exterior (both sides, BOC) for air system components. Fuel system includes a 26" aluminum 80-gallon fuel tank mounted LH BOC (behind cab), positioned 5" below the top of frame, with a perforated metal anti-siphon device and a PACCAR MX engine fuel cooler; DEF is supplied from a 7.3-gallon tank mounted LH BOC with a DEF-to-fuel ratio between 1:1 and 2:1. Battery box is aluminum, frame-mounted LH behind the fender, 8" below the top of frame, with a rubber battery pad. Bumper is a painted steel swept-back design with a notched top flange. Operating dimensions are rated at 40 ft length, 102" width, and 13.5 ft height; no tire chains are fitted due to tire/suspension clearance.
Suspension
Rear suspension is a Hendrickson HMX EX 460 rated 46,000 lbs with a 54" spread, HAULMAAX rubber, and a 70K creep rating, fitted with matching shock absorbers. Front suspension uses taper leaf springs with shocks, rated 20,000 lbs.
Cab & Interior
53" LCF ProBilt cab in right-hand drive, with a thermal insulation package and 4.5" rubber flares on the cab and wheel-well fenders. Interior is finished in gray with high-visibility yellow-painted grab handles, diamond plate floor covering, and an adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column with a Peterbilt-logo steering wheel. Seating includes Peterbilt driver and passenger seats — air ride/high-back on the driver's side and air ride/low-back on the passenger side — with orange seat belts. Climate control is a combination fresh-air heater/air conditioner. Visibility features include a two-piece flat windshield, a BOC-mounted dark-tint fixed rear window (18.5"x54"), heated/motorized stainless mirrors on each side, a look-down mirror mounted opposite the driver, and (4) 8" convex stainless mirrors. Exterior touches include a stainless steel outside sunvisor, rain gutters over both doors, an air-assisted cab tilt pump, and electric pantograph windshield wipers with intermittent feature. Infotainment includes a ConcertClass AM/FM/weatherband radio with 3.5mm aux input, a 4-speaker midlevel package, Bluetooth phone/audio, and a USB port; global telematics hardware is also installed. Instrumentation is a 7" digital cluster display showing transmission oil temperature, air restriction, and brake application air pressure. Additional cab equipment includes an exterior NFPA-compliant entry grab handle, a cab-mounted UL-listed ABC fire extinguisher, a triangle reflector kit, LED single-rectangular headlights, (5) LED clearance/marker lights, self-canceling turn signals, park-brake-activated brake lights, a moveable EOF crossmember for taillights, backup alarm wiring to EOF, and a battery-disconnect warning marker light.
